TV Market Round-Up: April 2010

ITV1's revenue was up 20.7% year on year in April 2010, to around £109 million.

Channel 4 also enjoyed impressive year on year growth, of 19.1% to £49.4 million.

Five's revenue was static at around £16.7 million, while GMTV was up a healthy 12%.

Total terrestrial television recorded a revenue increase of almost 17.8% year on year, to just under £180 million.

ITV Franchises

The biggest increase in revenue share was recorded by the LWT franchise region, up 0.72 percentage points to 11.76%.

Carlton provided a 14.06% share, down 1.15 percentage points, while Central and Meridian provided shares of 15.31% and 11.73% respectively.

North West/Border provided a 10.43% revenues share, up 0.11 percentage points, while Yorkshire/North East grew 0.36 percentage points to 11.06%.

Costs Per Thousand

Looking at costs per thousand, the biggest increase for ITV1 came in the Housewives with Children audience, up 31.1% year on year.

At Channel 4, there was a massive increase in the Housewives with Children audience, up 47.45%, while the biggest growth in Five's CPT price was also in the Housewives with Children audience, up 12.6%.

Commercial Impacts

April saw across the board declines in ITV1's commercial impacts, with th biggest decline for the Housewives with Children audience, down 7.9% year on year.

Channel 4 and Five were also down across all our featured audiences, with the largest falls coming for Housewives (-13.9%) and Housewives with Children (-11.2%) respectively.

Total Broadcast commercial impacts were up in all categories bar Housewives with Children and ABC1 Adults. The biggest increase was for Housewives, up 4%.

As has been the case every month so far in 2010, we have seen inflation across the TV market... The cost of TV airtime has gone up once again across all buying audiences.
Post World Cup July saw falls in viewing share for both BBC1 and ITV1. BBC1 posted a slight decrease amongst all home viewing share, whilst ITV1 saw its total drop substantially on 2009's figures.
The World Cup provided a significant boost to ITV1's total television revenue in June. The broadcaster enjoyed a 43.7% year on year rise to £109 million.
June viewing was dominated by the FIFA World Cup, which kicked-off on Friday 11 with a spectacular opening ceremony showcasing the best of host nation South Africa.
May figures show that ITV1's revenue was up 22.4% year on year, to £123 million.
