TV Overnights: Midsomer Murders holds peak spot

ITV1's Midsomer Murders won the 9pm to 10pm slot last night, peaking at 4.7 million viewers.

Starting at 8pm, the drama attracted an average of 4.5 million viewers, and a 20.2% share - significantly higher than last week's 3.9 million viewers and a 17.9% share.

This was despite competition from BBC1's Traffic Cops,which started at 9pm and managed 3.9 million viewers and a 16.7% share. Celebrity MasterChef, in the 8pm to 9pm slot, achieved 4.2 million viewers and a 19% average share.

Elsewhere, Coast on BBC2 secured 2.6 million viewers and an 11.4% share, while Channel 4 documentary The Men Who Jump Off Buildings had 1.7 million viewers and a 7.8% share.

Five's NCIS came in at 1.1 million viewers and a 4.7% share; slightly down on last weeks 1.2 million viewers and a 5.1% share.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1's Emmerdale won the 7pm to 7.30pm slot as usual, with 6.1 million viewers and a 32.5% share. BBC1's Penguin Island then took over the ratings at 7.30pm, with 3.3 million viewers and a 17.6% share.

BBC1 achieved the highest ratings during the morning, with ITV1 and BBC2 taking over in the afternoon.
