Radio 2 And Neil Fox Awarded At The Sony Radio Awards

The Sony Radio awards saw top honours for best station of the year go this year unexpectedly to Radio 2. Radio 5 Live was a contender for the title with its news and sports coverage but was just beaten into second place. Jenny Abramski received an award for the launch of Radio 5 and the station also won two gold prizes for its coverage.

The Broadcaster of the Year award went to Neil Fox, presenter of the Network Chart show. The Network Chart Show is broadcast every Sunday on 63 Independent Radio services across the British Isles. Independent Radio stations and performers were also awarded four golds, six silvers and four bronzes and Peter Baldwin, soon to retire as the Radio Authority’s chief executive, received a special award.

Radio 4’s Today remained “the most authoritative programme available on British radio. “The BBC won 22 of the 25 categories including Alistair Cooke’s gold award for outstanding contribution to radio for Letter From America which recently celebrated 50 years.
