Radio 5 Live Triumphs At Radio Awards

Radio 5 Live has been named national station of the year at the Sony radio awards. The BBC’s news and sports station which has been running for two years also took five other awards: Best Event Coverage (of the Ryder Cup); Response To News Event (Dallyn on Saturday); News and Current Affairs (Inverdale Nationwide); News Presentation (Breakfast Programme); Sports Programme (Ryder Cup coverage).

Chris Evans won the National Broadcaster of the Year award but was beaten in the Breakfast Show category by Virgin’s Russ and Jono. Jonathan Pearce of Capital Gold was named Best Sports Broadcaster, Local Station of the Year was Moray Firth Radio and Regional Station of the Year was Clyde 1FM. Richard Baker of Classic FM won the Gold Award.
