Cartoon Network And TNT Go Digital

The Cartoon Network and TNT Classic Movies will begin broadcasting using digital technology on December 16. The two channels currently share an analogue feed on the Astra 1C service, with the Cartoon Network broadcasting for 16 hours and TNT for 8, but in December they will additionally launch as separate 24-hour digital channels via the Astra 1E satellite.

Andy Bird, managing director of Turner Entertainment Networks International which runs the channels, said: “Taking Cartoon Network 24 hours allows us to tap into the 16-34 audience who enjoy the retro/nostalgic quality of cartoons. Research shows that we have a healthy kids audience to 9 o’clock at night and with over 40% of our viewers being adults we are catering to their viewing needs.”

Films being shown on TNT over the Christmas period will include Casablance, The Wizard of Oz and Where Eagles Dare.
