Radio Authority Receives 8 Applications For East Sussex Licences

The Radio Authority has accepted 8 applications for the new, small-scale, Independent Local Radio licences within East Sussex. The applicants are:

Arrow FM – (Conqueror Broadcasting LTD, Bill Uttley-Moore 01424 426322): A station with wide appeal, in the best traditions of independent local radio. It aims to entertain and inform the people of Hastings and the surrounding 1066 Country.

Brighton FM – (Brighton & Hove Broadcasting LTD, Rory McLeod 01825 872541): A full service local radio for Brighton & Hove, combining locally focused news and information with broadly targeted music and entertainment. There will also be specialist and community programming reflecting the vibrant diversity of the area.

Radio Caburn – (Radio Caburn LTD, Bryan Kidd 01273 814314): A speech-based service with a modest music input, based in the County Town of Lewes and mainly serving the western parts of East Sussex.

East 107 – (East Sussex Radio LTD, John Fisher 01323 488088): The source of local news, information, entertainment and ‘music you grew up with’ for Eastbourne.

Energy 107.2 FM – (Central Image Broadcasting LTD, Allan Moulds 0171 853 4905): Full service local radio representing the diverse tastes and cosmopolitan nature of Energy’s target audience within Brighton & Hove. Dance hits will be combined with chart and soul music and high quality news and information.

Hastings Rock – (Hastings Rock LTD, Brian Sims 01424 713920): 45 years of the best rock music ever heard; plus local news, information and entertainment for Hastings.

Passion 107 – (New Wave Broadcasting LTD, Roy Stannard 01273 696005):Independent, in tune, informed and indispensable for an 18-40 audience. Passion 107 will be the sound of the Town, it will be cosmopolitan and stimulating, setting the agenda in news, comment, listings and music.

Surf 107 – (Brighton & Hove Local Radio LTD, Eugene Perera 01273 777373): Contemporary and stylish music-led radio for Brighton & Hove with a commitment to local news, what’s on information and interactive features.

Each licence is being offered for the provision of a small-scale service to cover an area within East Sussex.. The Radio Authority expects to offer a maximum of three separate frequencies within this area.

Copies of these applications are available for public scrutiny in the main public libraries in the East Sussex area and at the Radio Authorities HQ in London. Comments should be sent to the Radio Authority in London by the deadline of 21 April. The Authority hopes to announce its decision about the award of the licence in the Summer.
