Digital Round-Up October 2000: ITV Makes Headway Across The Board

October’s viewing figures from BARB for non-terrestrial channels in digital homes held fairly steady month-on-month, having slipped slightly during September, although these channels still command the lion’s share of viewing in digital homes (see Digital Round-Up – September 2000: Terrestrials Gain Share In Digital Homes).

Among the terrestrial channels, ITV grabbed more of the remaining share, rising from 26.8% to 29.8% share of viewing in all homes from September to October. While the BBC channels lost out a little to pay for ITV’s success, Channel 4 suffered most, dropping from 11.3% in September to 9.8% of viewing in all homes during October.

Despite the continued problem of not having a carriage deal with Sky Digital, ITV also managed to improve its viewing share in Sky Digital homes this month, rising from 17.7% to 19.4%. In ONDigital homes, viewing of ITV rose from 24.5% to 25.8%. Channel 5 managed to rise across the board, with its share of viewing in digital homes reaching 3.3%, up from 2.9% during the previous month.
