TEAMtalk Buys Atlantic 252

Sports internet and radio company, TEAMtalk has bought Atlantic 252 and plans to relaunch it as a sports based station called TEAMtalk 252.

TEAMtalk paid £2m for RTL’s 80% stake in Atlantic 252 in a deal which is expected to be completed by the end of November. The remaining 20% of the station will continue to be controlled by Irish broadcaster RTE.

Atlantic will relaunch by the end of the financial year and will continue to broadcast from Ireland to a UK audience on Long Wave 252.

The acquisition marks a considerable addition to TEAMtalk’s radio operations allowing the group to compete on a national level with the likes of BBC Radio 5 Live and TALKsport.

Chairman and chief executive of TEAMtalk, Bill Wilson, said: “TEAMtalk is about building an independent content generation machine that can create revenues from as many distribution platforms as possible. When the station is launched we’ll have a national radio presence that will enable TEAMtalk’s sport content to be broadcast over main stream media and I am looking forward to driving the new format in the UK marketplace.”
