Important Notes: ABC Jul-Dec 2001

Important Notes: ABC Jul-Dec 2001

After 5pm today the concurrent release of ABC’s consumer magazine figures for the period July and December 2001 will be available to subscribers in MediaTel’s Press database. During Friday 15 February NewsLine will feature a series of sector reports based on these figures. The following notes refer to the criteria used to compile these reports:

The figures listed in NewsLine’s ABC reports are those reported by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) as at Thursday 14 February 2002. Late submissions and changes may be made after this date, and will thereafter be amended in MediaTel’s Press database.

In order to create the lists used for NewsLine’s ABC Performance by Publisher report we include all titles audited for each publisher during the two comparative periods (Jul – Dec 2000 and Jul – Dec 2001). This includes any launches, closures, mergers, buy-outs and titles that have only recently begun submitting audits. These exceptional cases are highlighted within our tables, and distinguished according to the following code next to the title:

B Denotes a title that has changed ownership within the last twelve months. In the case of the Performance by Publisher analysis, the circulations of these titles will not be included in the total for Jul – Dec 2000, when the titles were owned by their previous company, but will be included in the total for Jul – Dec 2001. Year on year circulation comparison will be made on individual titles as normal.

C Denotes a title which has closed within the last twelve months, which therefore has a figure for the Jul – Dec 2000 period, but may not for the Jul – Dec 2001 period (depending on how recent the closure was).

M Denotes a title that has merged with another title within the last twelve months, which therefore has a separate figure for the Jul – Dec 2000 period, but may not for the 2001 period.

N Denotes a title launched within the last six months, or one that is submitting its first ABC audit, and therefore does not have a figure for the Jul – Dec 2000 period.

R Denotes a title that has launched or begun submitting audits within the last twelve months, and therefore does not have a figure for the Jul – Dec 2000 period.

The sectors into which titles are placed for the purposes of NewsLine reports and the methodology used to calculate totals are our own (as explained above) and are designed to present an overview of the industry to our readers. They may or may not correlate with analyses of ABC results from other sources including ABC itself.

Subscribers to MediaTel will be able to access full ABC figures within the Press database from 5pm today (Thursday 14 February).
