Jazz FM Reports Revenue Rise

Jazz FM has reported a 9% rise in radio revenues for the six month period ending December 2001, despite the radio market as a whole experiencing a 9% drop.

Announcing its interim results today, the radio group admitted that its listening figures had been adversely affected by the war in Afghanistan as the world events following 11 September caused a major swing away from music radio towards speech-based stations. The latest RAJAR data shows that Jazz FM’s weekly reach fell by 11% period on period to 857,000. However, the group said that it is confident that its results for the first quarter of 2002 will recover.

The group also reported a 15% increase in revenues to £4.53m, despite digital costs increasing by £225,000. Jazz FM’s chairman, Sir Harry Roche, said: “Although the UK advertising market shows little sign of recovery in 2002, we expect to continue to outperform the market and remain confident of making further progress throughout our business in the second half of the year.”
