NTL Unveils UK’s Fastest Internet Service

NTL is launching a new broadband internet service for residential users which it claims is the UK’s “fastest ever.”

The new 1-Megabit service, which according to NTL is up to twenty times faster than a normal dial-up internet connection, will be unveiled on 11 March and will be provided through a combination of a powerful cable modem and NTL’s fibre optic network. The service is aimed at PC gamers, video-file downloaders and MP3 music users and will be available to NTL digital customers.

Managing director of NTL, Stephen Carter, said: “This is the Ferrari of fast internet access. It is simply the best internet service now available to homes in the UK.”

Rival cable company Telewest announced on Friday that it experienced 1,135% customer growth of its Blueyonder broadband internet service over the last year. The company claims that the number of broadband connections it is selling per day has risen from 380 this time last year to 900 (see Telewest Announces Broadband Growth).

A recent report by business information company Datamonitor found that the uptake of broadband internet access in the UK will remain slow unless service providers like NTL and Telewest improve their marketing strategies (see Better Ads Needed To Boost Broadband Uptake).
