UK Online Advertising Grows 28% In 2001

Despite falling from the ‘heady days’ of triple-digit growth, internet advertising still outpaced the rest of the UK media industry last year, rising 28% year on year, according to Forrester Research.

The latest statistics from Evaliant’s AdWatch ad tracking service show that the overall UK online advertising market reached £122 million in 2001, with financial services advertisers dominating. The overall ad market fell by 3.4% during the the same period, according to Forrester.

Until mid-year, year-on-year growth in the value of web advertising averaged 52%. In August, it fell to just 15%, with the traditional summer marketing slump exacerbated by the economic downturn, according to the report. November actually slipped into negative growth, down by 6%.
