Capital Partners Safeway For ‘Picnic 2002’

Capital Radio and supermarket chain Safeway have struck a “mutually beneficial” deal surrounding Safeway’s ‘Picnic 2002’ event, which will feature artists including Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Ronan Keating and draw on Capital’s experience at putting on the ‘Party in the Park’ events.

The deal evolved after initial discussions regarding Safeway using Capital FM’s event infrastructure for the radio station’s ‘Party in the Park’, which occurs the following week. The arrangement will see Capital Gold receive branding exposure across all promotional and marketing activity, as well as “significant” ad spend from the supermarket on Capital Gold. The station will also be the exclusive radio partner and broadcast live from the event. In return, the Safeway event will receive promotional exposure across all Capital Gold programming, including ticket give-aways and themed artist days.

Capital’s head of sponsorship and promotions, Ann O’Neill, described the deal as “a fantastic and complimentary partnership which results in a fantastic two weeks for Capital Radio.”
