Channel 4 Chief To Deliver MacTaggart Lecture

Mark Thompson, the recently appointed chief executive of Channel 4 (see Thompson Takes The Helm At Channel 4), is to deliver this year’s MacTaggart Lecture at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival at the end of August.

BBC veteran Thompson, who joins the channel in its twentieth year on air, is expected to outline his personal strategy and vision for Channel 4 and the broadcasting landscape as a whole.

Charles Brand, GEITF 2002 advisory chair and managing director of Tiger Aspect, said that no-one was better qualified to deliver the lecture: “Terrestrially he will have been in charge of three of the five channels over the last year…His view for the way ahead for Channel 4 and where its priorities and rationale lie in a far tougher commercial environment is of avid interest to the TV industry.”
