The Wireless Group has this morning posted pre-tax loss for the year ended 31 December 2001 down by 70.5% to £10.1 million, adding that its bank debt has now been paid off. Operating loss at the group fell by 31.4% to £10.5 million on turnover up 5.6% at £31.1 million.

The fall in the Wireless Group’s loss comes after the ‘tough trading conditions’ of 2001. However, the company says that it has recently experienced a pick-up in advertising demand for its national talkSPORT station, with cash turnover at the group rising by 9% during April. Forward bookings for May are also looking ‘positive’, said chief executive Kelvin MacKenzie, although May is expected to show flat performance overall.
