TEAMtalk 252 Gears Up For World Cup With Ladbrokes.com

TEAMtalk 252 has secured Ladbrokes.com as the lead sponsor of its World Cup breakfast programming.

Under the deal, the betting company will have sole sponsorship of TEAMtalk’s Full Sports World Cup Breakfast, which will be broadcast daily from 6am to 10am throughout the tournamnet. The sponsorship will encompase all aspects of programmming including off-tube commentary, player interviews and match forecasts.

TEAMtalk 252’s sales director, Tony Sweeney, said: “It’s a pefrect partnership and we are delighted to have one of the top sporting brands as our mian World Cup sponsor.”

Martyn Miller, senior marketing director of Ladbrokes.com, added: “We have a long association with TEAMtalk and this represents a natural extension to our existing activity. Given the nature of kickoff times in Korea and Japan we see radio an an ideal medium to communicate to football fans during the World Cup.”

Recent research from the RAB indicates that 36% of football fans plan to use the radio to keep up to date with this summer’s World Cup, regardless of whether or not England are playing (see World Cup Radio May Attract 30% Of Fans). When the World Cup was held in France in 1998, only 15% used the radio to follow the action.

TEAMtalk 252, which according to RAJAR results for the first quarter of 2002 has a weekly reach of 428,000, is the latest of a number of radio stations to have signed World Cup advertising deals. TalkSPORT has secured a number of sponsors for the tournament (see Vauxhall Signs World Cup Sponsor Deal With TalkSPORT) and last month Virgin Radio signed a six-figure deal with Fujifilm to promote the brand in the run up to the event (see Virgin Signs Six Figure Ad Deal With Fujifilm).
