Virgin Is World’s Number One Web Radio Station

Virgin Radio was the most listened-to online radio station in the world during May this year, according to research from both Arbitron Webcast and Measurecast.

James Cridland, managing editor for virginradio.co.uk said: “Virgin Radio’s figures were boosted by the station’s introduction of the trail of streaming MP3. We now broadcast in three major formats including Windows Media Player, Real One and MP3. The streaming of an MP3 feed means users can listen whatever computer system they have.”

According to figures from Measurecast, listening hours for the station were up 25% month on month to 1.5 million, while audience figures were up 26% 320,317. Arbitron Webcast puts listening hours at 1.3 million, a 22% increase month on month.
