MTV Appoints Former ITV Digital Marketer

MTV has appointed former ITV Digital marketer, James Scroggs, as its new UK marketing director, with a brief to develop the MTV brand as the barometer of youth culture.

Scroggs, who joined the channel last week, is planning a review of MTV’s creative advertising account. He replaces David Pullan, who left earlier this year to join Channel 5 as marketing director.

Commenting on his appointment, Scroggs said: “”My aim is to continue building the stature of the MTV UK & Ireland brand. Innovative, watercooler programmes like Jackass and The Osbournes are hugely successful in bringing MTV to the attention of new, wider audiences. I want to develop this avenue, making MTV a topic of conversation in the offices, pubs and playgrounds of the country.”

It is understood that as senior brand manager at the recently collapsed ITV Digital, Scroggs was instrumental in creating the company’s high-profile Al and Monkey ad campaign, featuring comedian Jonny Vegas.

MTV recently selected 12Snap as its “preferred partner” for mobile marketing activity in the UK and Ireland. The deal will see 12Snap’s recently created media sales arm work to enhance the revenue potential of the MTV brand by selling the music network’s permission-based database of 16-25 year-olds to its existing and future clients (see 12Snap Forms Mobile Marketing Partnership With MTV).
