Sunday Telegraph Secures BBC Ad Deal

The Sunday Telegraph TV and radio supplement has secured a deal with the BBC to promote its free digital channels with advertising and advertorials.

The weekly guide is to be covered by a four-page wraparound advertisement for the first time on 22 December. The deal also includes branding on the polythene bags containing The Sunday Telegraph magazine.

This is the first such commercial deal between the BBC and Telegraph Group. It was negotiated on behalf of Telegraph Group by Nick Russell, a strategic planner in the Commercial Development department.

Earlier this week, the BBC’s digital platform, Freeview, insisted that the plans to retrieve set-top boxes from former ITV Digital customers would not reduce its audience (see ITV Facing Heat From Advertisers As OFT Deadline Looms). A spokesperson for the channel has claimed that the new platform is targeting those who have not yet switched to digital and it is hoped promotions like this will hasten the switch over.
