Capital Goes For Gold In Bid For New Glasgow FM Licence

Capital Radio is planning to use its Classic Gold format to bid for a new FM licence in Glasgow.

The new Glasgow Gold station will play hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and will feature a mix of big name DJs alongside a range of local programming. The group has also pledged that the station will have strong local roots, local news and interviews.

Capital already has seven regional licences for the Gold format in England and Wales. It also owns Beat 106 in Scotland and is looking to further expand its presence in this market.

Lyn Long, brand managing director at Capital Gold, commented: “We believe there is a substantial unserved audience in Glasgow, the gold generation, that would tune into Gold if offered an FM service. We are looking forward to broadcasting our unique music offering to the people of Glasgow and West Scotland.”

Capital Gold recently launched a six-figure brand advertising campaign across black cabs in central London to build awareness of the station in the capital (see Capital Gold London Launches Taxi Ad Campaign).

The station’s parent group also hit the headlines last week following speculation that Guardian Media Group is to make a bid for the company (see GMG Looks To Expand Radio Interests With Capital Bid).
