BBC Poised To Launch New Cookery Magazine

BBC Worldwide has unveiled plans to expand its magazine portfolio in the autumn with the launch of a new food and cookery title, codenamed Project Olive.

The title is thought to be one of a number of new launches from BBC Magazines over the coming year and is part of a move to extend the publisher’s range of products in the food and lifestyle sectors.

A number of key appointments have already been made at the title, including that of Orlando Murrin, editor of the group’s BBC Good Food Magazine, who will take up the role of editorial director.

Ashley Munday, publishing director of the new project, commented: “We have already demonstrated an unrivalled success in the food sector with the market-leader BBC Good Food Magazine, and this title will occupy a distinctive position in the market attracting a new audience to food magazines.”

Murrin added: “As well as drawing on the huge wealth of talent and resources here at BBC Magazines, we have already recruited some of the team who will bring this exciting new title to the news-stand and will be making other key appointments soon.”

The latest ABC figures for the six months ending December 2002 show that BBC Good Food magazine saw its circulation increase by 6.1% year on year to 342,375.

BBC Magazines recently poached Sarah Shelton from Hachette Filipacchi to become its first ever classified ad director (see BBC Magazines Appoints First Ever Classified Ad Director).
