Future Celebrates Computer Arts’ Centenary Edition

Specialist publisher Future has announced a spate of celebratory promotions to mark the 100th issue of the company’s leading creative magazine, Computer Arts.

Among the promotions due to accompany the anniversary issue next month are four limited edition covers for the title, billed by Future as “collector’s covers”, as well as the chance for to win computer software worth £1,000.

The £,1000 promotion is to be run as an “Instant-win Golden Ticket” competition, rewarding four lucky readers with software related to the magazine’s content.

Since its creation in December 1995, Computer Arts has featured tutorials from big name designers and the best digital artists in the industry. Each month the magazine features articles explaining how to create complex digital effects in photography, illustration, 3D and web design areas.

The centenary edition will also include a 64-page covermounted tips book, two free DVDs with demos of the latest design software and a free full copy of leading 3D landscape package, Vue d’Esprit. The issue will also carry a special retrospective feature examining how the creative arts industry has changed over the last nine years.

Commenting on the magazine’s milestone achievement, Gillian Carson, editor of Computer Arts said: “Since launching we’ve seen the digital creative industry grow from a tiny market of hobbyists to a truly global business. Entry into the industry is now easier than ever thanks to the help of affordable equipment for the average designer and student.”

He added: “The magazine has been so successful because it prides itself on featuring cutting edge work from leading digital designers, and that’s something we’ve focused on since the very first issue. We will continue to do so, and look forward to seeing how the future of the digital creative industry shapes up.”

The September issue of Computer Arts goes on sale on August 5th with a coverprice £6. The magazine has seen its circulation decline rapidly over the past three years, losing 23.8% year on year during 2003.

Earlier this year Future celebrated the 100th issue of another title, monthly technology bible T3. The company marked the occasion in a similar fashion, with an advertising push and six different cover designs. The promotion was also topped off with reader competitions (see Future Celebrates T3 Centenary With Advertising Push).
