Future Grooms New Hair And Beauty Title For Success

Niche magazine giant Future Publishing is making its first foray into the highly competitive hair and beauty sector with the launch of a new monthly title targeting well groomed consumers.

Hair Style & Beauty magazine enters a fierce marketplace dominated by a few key titles. However, it has the potential to perform well, with Future Publishing claiming that almost 3.5 million people in the UK regularly read hair and beauty magazines.

The new title will target the lucrative market of 20 to 40 year-old women with cash to spend on the latest beauty products. Future describes its readers as those women who ‘believe appearance is crucial and want to keep up to date with the latest hair styles and fashions’. The publisher also hopes its readers will spend money on premium hair and skin care products, providing a ready made market for high-profile advertisers.

Hair Style & Beauty magazine will be edited by Becky Skuse, formerly of Origin Publishing’s Your Hair and Hair Ideas. The title will feature how-to guides on creating ‘salon-standard styles at home’ and in-depth product tests of the latest cosmetic products.

The title also includes celebrity pages, building its content to look at trend-setting stars and giving hints and tips for readers wanting to create the same look. The first issue of Hair Style & Beauty includes a covermounted ‘Hollywood Hair’ book, sponsored by leading salon chain Toni&Guy.

Commenting on Future’s newest launch, group publisher, Katherine Raderecht, said: “Hair Style & Beauty magazine is definitely not just another hair magazine. We’re offering consumers a completely new experience in hair and beauty magazines by showing them how to create the look they want in the comfort of their own home.”

The title launches on 9 September with a cover price of £2.70. Future’s managing director, Robert Price, said: “Launching a hair and beauty magazine for women enables us to enter yet another new special interest area, one that continues to grow strongly in terms of consumer interest and magazine sales, fitting in well with our overall publishing strategy – of expanding into new areas.”

Earlier this month Future Publishing strengthened its internet operations with a raft of new senior appointments following a wide-ranging board level review designed to increase efficiency and boost the revenue generated by the company’s ongoing online projects (see Future Publishing Strengthens Internet Operations).
