ABC Results Jan-Jun 2005:Rock On Top In Music Sector

Magazines The latest ABC results showed the nation’s continued love for rock music, with Future Publishing’s, Metal Hammer again enjoying the strongest % growth over the last six months, and reporting an increase of 20.9% year on year, taking its circulation total up to 40,236.

Future’s other music offering, Classic Rock saw the second highest % increase, boosting its circulation by 15.2% year on year to command a circulation increase of 44,349.

Overall, the music magazine industry performed well throughout the January to June period, with only two publications suffering dips in circulation.

Emap’s dance magazine, MixMag saw the largest decline, dropping by 7.9% year on year, bringing its circulation down to 46,470. Nearest rival, IPC’s Uncut at 110,015 saw a slight fall in circulation declining by 2.5% year on year, to 110,015.

In terms of actual circulation Emaps Q and Mojo remain well ahead of most other titles, both showing year on year increases of 14.2% year on year and 6.3% respectively.

Uncut, recently celebrated its one hundredth issue, with a star studded party over a three night residency at London’s 100 Club next month (see Uncut Celebrates 100th Issue And Circulation Success).

Kerrang! also managed to raise its profile, seeing its circulation rise by 3.1% year on year, reaching 64,554.

Rock Sand Ltd’s Rock Sound pushed its circulation up by a healthy 11.3% year on year, raising its circulation to 22,305.

Elsewhere, NME also gained readers, increasing its circulation by 5.2% period on period, to command a total of 73,640. IPC recently secured indie band Oasis to promote the latest issue of NME, with the magazine carrying a one-off CD featuring tracks selected by the band, as well as an exclusive live track from Oasis themselves (see NME Partners Oasis For Covermount Promotion).
