ABC Results Jan-Jun 2005:Home Interest Sees Mixed Bag From ABCs

Magazines The nation’s home interest market saw mixed results in the six months to June, with the majority of publications showing decline year on year in the latest ABC results.

Homebase Ideas currently sits at the top of the table, despite dropping by 10.8% year on year, with a circulation of 399,348, while its closest rival, IPC’s Ideal Home commands sales of 247,006 despite taking a tumble in circulation, dipping by 8.9% year on year.

Hachette Filipacchi Real Homes Magazine suffered the biggest decline year on year, losing 27.6% year on year, while Emap’s Period Living & Traditional Homes lost 22.3% period on period. The titles reached circulations of 65,429 and 55,337 respectively.

IPC saw more declines with 25 Beautiful Homes dropping by 11.9% year on year to 107,181, while Country Homes & Interiors also went down, losing 8% period on period to see its circulation drop to 84,671.

Homes & Gardens followed the downward trend, dipping by 6.1% year on year, with circulation now resting at 146,279. The success of IPC’s Living, however, gave the media group reason to celebrate, increasing by 9.4% year on year to attract a circulation of 94,041.

The BBC enjoyed the largest increase in the ABC figures amongst the nation’s home interest titles, with its BBC Good Homes magazine rising by 13% year on year to reach a circulation of 135,623. BBC Homes & Antiques, its other publication in the sector did not fair so well, dropping slightly by 0.5% period on period, to 114,014.

Elsewhere, Country Living managed a gain of 5.7% year on year, while Elle Decoration also rose, increasing by 4.9%. The titles now reach circulations of 189,696 and 65,044 respectively.

World Of Interiors and Your Home continued the upwards trend, pushing their circulation up by 0.1% year on year and 2.7% respectively, while Conde Nast’s House & Garden slipped by 5.9%.

The National Magazine Company also suffered a blow, with its House Beautiful losing 5% year on year and 6.6% period on period, taking its circulation down to 201,143.
