October Launch To Bring More4 To The Masses

More4 Logo October 10 will see Channel 4 broaden its digital horizons, with the launch of More4 to offer the broadcaster’s documentaries, news, talk and drama content to a wider audience.

The launch, which will span all digital platforms, will represent the first new public service channel from anyone but the BBC since the launch of Channel 4 in November 1982.

More4 will offer repeats of big-budget Channel 4 documentaries, as well as original content, such as its first programme A Very Social Secretary, taking a satirical look at the ups and downs of former home secretary David Blunkett’s career.

The launch has already attracted a flurry of excitement, with Blunkett attempting legal action to stay the docu-drama’s broadcast.

Peter Dale, head of More4, explained the need for the new channel, stating: “You know what it’s like. You’re flicking channels and you can’t help feeling your heart sink a little. And weirdly, the more channels you have, the worse the feeling gets. I want More4 to change that. I want it to lift your spirits – with a mix of programmes that you won’t find anywhere else on British television.”

Far from offering predicable content, Dale promises “no more Nazis, or more shopping” but programmes that are “surprising, outspoken and simply enjoyable.”

The new channel boss promises the “best of world documentaries, some smart films, the highest quality news and current affairs and big pieces of home grown contemporary drama” as well as exclusive spin-offs from favourite Channel 4 programmes. More4 will also become the primetime home of American political drama, The West Wing.
