ABC Results Jul-Dec 2005:TV Listings Suffer Decline, While Soap Sees Mixed Results

Soap Magazines The latest ABC results for the TV Listings magazine sector, reveal a depressed market, with just two publications managing to increase sales.

IPC Media’s Whats on TV managed to retain its position as market leader, despite incurring the largest actual loss in circulation, dipping by 84,601, to 1,502,977.

TV Choice from H Bauer Publishing, enjoyed the largest % increase in the sector, rising by 9.8% year on year and adding a massive 107,955 onto its circulation. The title now commands a circulation of 1,212,246.

Total TV Guide did not fair so well for the German publisher, dropping 4.5% year on year, with its circulation going down to 92,004.

IPC’s other offerings, suffered declines across the board, with TV Times and TV & Satellite Week, both seeing dips in circulation. The publications went down by 13.9% year on year and 1.9%, respectively.

The publisher’s latest venture into the TV Listings market also lost out, with TV Easy losing 55,416 from its Janurary to June figure, currently commanding a circulation of 284,602.

The BBC’s Radio Times lost 1.3% year on year, taking its circulation down to 1,093,850, while Radio Telefis Eireann’s RTE Guide managed a year on year increase of 1.4%.

The soap market enjoyed more gains than losses, with IPC tx’s Soaplife leading the way and adding an impressive 4,254 to its circulation during the period. An increase of 5.3%, taking it to 84,296.

Hachette Filipacchi saw mixed results, with Inside Soap retaining its position as market leader and managing to push its circulation up by a slight 0.4% year on year, to 183,026.

The publishers other offering in the sector, All About Soap suffered a year on year dip of 2.4%, taking its circulation down to 70,118.
