TV Overnights: The Silence continues with 4.6m for BBC One

BBC One’s new thriller The Silence secured the highest ratings during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour once again last night with 4.6 million peak viewers.

The four-part drama, which is running on consecutive nights this week, attracted 4.6 million average viewers and a 19.7% share during the all-important peak-slot, down slightly on its debut episode’s 4.7 million viewers and 20% share.

The hour-long programme sat in the middle of BBC One’s peak schedule, which started with Eastenders at 7.30pm.  The channel’s flagship soap pulled in more than 7.2 million peak viewers, before Holby City picked up 5.7 million peak viewers and a 25.9% share during the 8pm to 9pm slot.

After The SilenceBBC News at Ten, a new documentary Between Life and Death and the film Lady in the Water continued to hold on to the peak audience share for BBC One.

Elsewhere, ITV1’s Tuesday evening line-up saw the first 30-minutes of Emmerdale win the peak audience.  At 7pm, more than 6 million viewers tuned in to see the latest goings-on in the dales, before switching their attention to Albert Square at 7.30pm.

After Emmerdale, Piers Morgan‘s popular travel show pulled in 2.2 million average viewers and a 10.8% share in the pre-watershed 8pm to 9pm slot, before The Bill settled on a lower 2.4 million viewers and a 10.6% share between 9pm to 10pm.

At the same time, Five’s long-running CSI: Miami attracted a decent 2.4 million viewers and a 10.6% share, equal to ITV1.  Channel 4’s new The Fairy Jobmother, meanwhile, started on more than 2.3 million peak viewers and a 8.9% share.

Over on BBC Two, the return of the sketch showThat Mitchell and Webb Look pulled in 1.8 million viewers in the first 30 minutes of the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour, while comedy quiz Shooting Stars picked up 1.5 million viewers during the second 30 minute slot.
