TV Overnights: BBC One’s new Outcasts debuts with 4.5m viewers

BBC One’s new eight-part series Outcasts claimed the all-important peak-hour ratings with a high of more than 4.8 million viewers last night.

The sci-fi drama starring Liam Cunningham and Hermione Norris attracted a consistent 4.4 million average viewers and a 17.9% share for BBC One during the 9pm to 10pm slot.

Elsewhere, ITV1’s The Biggest Loser continued with 3.7 million average viewers and a 15.2% audience share, while Channel 4’s One Born Every Minute achieved an average audience of 2.6 million viewers (and a 10.6% share).

Meanwhile, Channel 5’s new five-part documentary series Royal Navy Caribbean Patrol debuted with a decent 2 million viewers and 8.3% average share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

At the same time, BBC Two’s Horizon: How to Survive a Car Crash pulled in 1.5 million viewers and a 6.2% share.

In the pre-watershed slots, the soaps dominated the Monday-night ratings. ITV1’s Coronation Street managed to pip BBC One’s Eastenders to the highest peak audience – 9.5 million to Eastenders‘ 9.4 million. Meanwhile, ITV1’s Emmerdale picked up 7.8 million peak viewers during the early-evening 7pm to 7.30pm slot.
