US launch imminent for Zeebox, which expects 6m users in first six months

Social television website Zeebox is set to debut in the US within the next two months, and hopes to attract six million users to its two screen technology inside half a year.

The Zeebox application allows users to see what their friends are viewing, through mobile devices, while providing second-by-second aggregated contextual information on what consumers are currently watching.

Co-founder and chief technical officer, Anthony Rose, presented the app to US audiences at the TV of Tomorrow Show in San Francisco. In January BSkyB purchased a stake in Zeebox with a view to integrating the two companies’ software.

A key component of Zeebox’s commercial appeal is the ability to generate second screen advertising, which would allow viewers to see advertisements for products as soon as they are mentioned in a particular show.
