NBC’s Olympic ‘TV Everywhere’ coverage peaks in the US

NBC’s Olympic ‘TV Everywhere’ coverage used 34% of total bandwidth across major US networks in the first seven days of the London 2012 Games.

According to the National Inflation Association, the Olympics coverage has overtaken Netflix as the biggest bandwidth consumer on broadband networks in the US.

Netflix takes up 32% of bandwidth during peak times in the US, however the streaming service’s bandwidth consumption declined 25% during the first week of the Games, while NBC’s coverage reached a peak of 34%.

NBC paid a record $1.3 billion to broadcast the Olympic Games. NBC’s 2012 coverage attracted around 32.5 million viewers, while streams were up to 45 million compared with 14 million for the Beijing Games.
