TFI Friday to return as a full series this autumn

Following the highly-anticipated return of TFI Friday earlier this month, Channel 4 has confirmed that it will make the Chris Evans-hosted show into a full series.

TFI Friday, which first broadcast between 1996 and 2000, returned to screens for a 90 minute special on Friday 12 June and drew an average audience of 3.8 million, while also managing to attract the highest share of viewers aged 16-34 with a 30% share of the demographic for the slot.

With over 90,000 tweets – an average of 519 tweets-per-minute – TFI Friday, featuring Britpop band Blur, was also the most talked about programme of the week.

Commenting on the show’s return, Chris Evans said: “Oh my goodness, are we really going to get to do this again? Looks like it – and leading into Christmas too. I might actually spontaneously explode on live television due to over excited-ness. Does that still count as unpredictable cos I’ve said it now?”

Jay Hunt, Channel 4’s creative officer, added: “Chris is the best of the best of live broadcasters and I never doubted for a moment that this TFI would live up to expectations. Confirming a series was a no brainer.”

TFI Friday was commissioned by Channel 4’s commissioning editor for live & events, Tom Beck, and will run for eight parts this coming autumn.
