EE TV adds 25 premium channels

Discovery, British Eurosport and Cartoon Network are among the 25 new premium channels to roll out on EE’s TV service.

The new partnership with TVPlayer will give new and existing EE TV customers access to the channels through the on-demand section of their set-top box for a £4.99 rolling subscription, making it the UK’s ‘most advanced TV service’, according to EE.

Other channels added from TV Player include National Geographic, Sony Movie Channel, Gold, Animal Planet and alibi.

“EE TV customers have always loved being able to pick and choose premium channels without the commitment of a fixed contract or a hefty monthly fee,” said Simeon Bird, director of EE broadband and TV.

“These 25 new channels offer something for everyone, whether you like sport, documentaries, lifestyle shows, or want to keep the family entertained. It’s a great addition to EE TV’s On Demand section, which already contains a huge range of movies, entertainment, music, kids and international content.”

The news comes as Sky prepares to launch its latest set-top box, Sky Q, which is expected to compete directly with EE’s STB offering.

Speaking at Media Playground 2015, Graham Lovelace, director of Lovelace Consulting, said he believes Sky Q – like the new EE set-top-box – will feature “multiple tuners” to allow content to be streamed to devices around the home and the ability to record a range of channels whilst others are being watched.
