Final half of BBC Two’s Caravanner of the Year sees audience jump by 20%

Wednesday night brought the second half of Caravanner of the Year to BBC Two at 8pm, after feverish viewers were forced to wait an entire week to find out which odd couple would be crowned king and queen of the guarded transportable home community.

Last week’s opening excitement brought in 1.3 million viewers, with last night seeing the final three couples attempt to prove their worth via daring navigation, in-caravan entertaining and driving without a satnav challenges.

Like a dark sketch show brought to life, the grand finale of Caravanner of the Year featured a number of ‘interesting’ characters and managed to improve on its audience by a massive 20%.

Yesterday saw a couple from Yorkshire destroy their rivals with a 40 year old caravan, resulting in 1.6 million viewers and an 8% share.

Over on BBC One, it was the morning after the night before on EastEnders (8pm) and poor ol’ Denise Fox had an overpowering stench of Phil Mitchell about her in an hour-long special.

[advert position=”left”]As if repeatedly bedding Ian Beale hadn’t been traumatising enough, the scriptwriting gods saw fit to send Denise careering to an even lower ebb with a night of passion with the unstoppable yellow-skinned, murderous, vodka-swilling Lothario.

The latest developments from the darkest corner of the modern human experience secured 5.4 million viewers and a 26% share.

ITV’s retro variety show Tonight at the Palladium  continued at 8pm with compere Bradley Walsh dusting off 80s power pop band Go West, amongst other relics and oddities, resulting in 2.5 million viewers and a 12% share.

On Channel 4, The Supervet (8pm) continued to do his thing, meddling with God’s plan via the medium of bionic doggies, with the latest helping of pioneering medical procedures and irresistible cuteness resulting in 1.7 million viewers and an 8% share.

On the grimmer side of the televised medical spectrum was Channel 5’s GPs: Behind Closed Doors at 8pm, with the tales of everyday GP patients netting 941,000 viewers and a 5% share.

In the 9pm slot, a later-than-usual MasterChef (BBC One) and the final ever episode of ITV’s Scott & Bailey went head-to-head and managed to secure the same amount of viewers.

Both the last quarter final of MasterChef and the third and final instalment of Scott & Baily‘s last outing brought in 4.2 million viewers and a 20% share.

On BBC Two, Mary Beard’s Ultimate Rome: Empire Without Limit saw the historian’s guide through the past and its effect on the present secure 1.6 million viewers and an 8% share.

On Channel 4, the real life horror of 24 Hours in Police Custody (8pm) was watched by 1.2 million viewers and a 6% share, while Channel 5’s Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It Away secured 1.2 million viewers and a 5% share.

Coronation Street took Wednesday’s top spot at 7:30pm on ITV with 6.1 million viewers and a 33% share, while the rural loveliness of Emmerdale bagged 5.3 million viewers and a 32% share.
