Rajar Q2 2016: Digital

Almost six in 10 UK adults now listen to the radio via a digital platform, according to the latest figures from Rajar for the second quarter of 2016.

32 million (59%) people aged 15+ tune in via a digital radio, digital TV or through an online platform each week.

The share of all radio listening via a digital platform stood at 45.3% in Q2 – comprised of DAB (a 32.3% share), Digital TV (5.1%) and online or via an app (8%).

In an average week, digital listening accounts for 473 million hours; DAB has a 71% share, DTV an 11% share and online an 18% share.

27% of adults claim to listen to the radio via a mobile phone or tablet at least once a month, up 6% year on year. The figure rises to 39% of 15-24 year olds (also up 6% year on year).

Overall 48.7 million adults (90% of the population) tuned in to their selected radio station each week for 21.5 hours on average – a combined total of 1.045 billion.
