IPG promotes Krakowsky, Lee and Kiernan

Interpublic Group (IPG) has announced a series of changes to its senior management team, with Philippe Krakowsky, Daryl Lee and Eileen Kiernan moving into new roles.

As Krakowsky becomes the ad network’s new chief operating officer, Daryl Lee succeeds him as CEO of media buying division IPG Mediabrands and Eileen Kiernan takes over as global CEO of UM.

Krakowsky has served as chairman and CEO of IPG Mediabrands for the past three years, and is to continue in his role as chairman. He will also remain IPG’s chief strategy and talent officer, a role he has held for over a decade.

In his new role, Krakowsky will work closely with IPG’s chairman and CEO, Michael Roth, to oversee business operations across the group.

“For more than a decade, Philippe has played a key part in major strategic actions at Interpublic that have been integral to our long-term success, and more recently he was the driving force behind our acquisition of Acxiom,” said Roth, adding that Krakowsky also helped in the design and execution of IPG’s “open architecture” model and in creating the network’s “distinctive culture”.

Elsewhere, Lee has been promoted to CEO of IPG Mediabrands after more than six years as UM’s global CEO. He has previously held roles at McCann Worldgroup, McCann Erickson and as head of global strategy at UM.

Commenting on the appointment, Roth said: “Daryl is one of our industry’s top business strategists, with experience as a management consultant, at creative agencies, as well as in the media sector. He is relentlessly client-focused, and has consistently proven that he and his teams can identify insights-driven, creative solutions for marketers’ most challenging problems.

“Daryl’s great passion for the business inspires his people to do their best work, and he has consistently shown himself to be a true champion for diversity and inclusion, a core IPG value.”

The vacant top job at UM has been filled by Kiernan, the former global president of UM’s dedicated Johnson & Johnson media unit, J3.

All three appointments are effective immediately.
