PHD promotes Avril Canavan and Patrick Ryan to C-suite

PHD Worldwide has created two new C-suite positions, with Avril Canavan promoted to chief marketing and communications officer and Patrick Ryan promoted to chief commercial officer.

Canavan joined the global media agency network, which is part of Omnicom Media Group, in 2010 as PR and communications director, before being promoted to worldwide marketing and communications director in 2013.

She has also held senior communications positions at Iris and TBWA\London.

Meanwhile, Ryan has been promoted from his role as worldwide business development director, which he had held since he joined PHD in 2013. Prior to this, he held senior commercial positions at media agencies UM and MediaCom.

Both will continue reporting to Philippa Brown, worldwide CEO.

“Avril and Patrick have been an instrumental part of PHD’s network growth story and I couldn’t be happier that they are taking on new senior roles, as we continue PHD’s ambitious growth plans and make a leap in our evolution as a network,” Brown said.

“They’re a great team that has driven our approach to agency marketing and business development, which has manifested itself in everything from our success in recent pitches to our position as one of the most awarded networks globally.”

PHD Worldwide has recently made several new business wins, adding LG Electronics, TikTok and Pokerstars to a roster of clients which also includes Volkswagen Group, HSC and Singapore Airlines.

Replacing Ryan as worldwide business development director is Emma Storer, who has been promoted from her position as an associate director.

Elsewhere, Jess Ozdemir and Lisa Williams join the worldwide marketing and communications team as worldwide director and EMEA director respectively, reporting to Canavan.
