Global’s commercial restructure sees Nigel Clarkson exit the business

Global has today unveiled a shake up to its commercial structure, which sees Nigel Clarkson, director of commercial (outdoor), leave the company.

The “simplified” operation will see the commercial team divided into two, with Katie Bowden to lead one team as director of commercial audio, while Oliver Deane leads a separate team as director of commercial outdoor and DAX.

According to Global, Clarkson’s exit comes after successfully integrating the three outdoor companies it acquired last year – Exterion, Outdoor Plus and Primesight – into the business.

“I joined Global last year with a clear remit to help integrate, commercially, three outdoor businesses into one,” Clarkson said.

“I am pleased to say this mission has now been successfully completed which, whilst it has sadly brought my time with Global to a close, is something I had been planning for some time. It was my absolute pleasure to lead Global’s outdoor commercial team through this process and I am beyond proud of the work that has been done to set this part of Global’s business up for future success.”

Both Bowden and Deane joined Global in 2011. Bowden, who was previously Global’s commercial agency director – national sales, will now oversee all sales and trading for terrestrial radio and IP connected radio, including Global Player and DAX.

She will also take a joint lead with Deane in servicing and developing Global’s commercial agency relationships.

Dean, who was previously director of commercial digital (DAX), will oversee all sales and trading for outdoor while continuing to lead DAX’s operations, data and North American businesses.

Mike Gordon will continue to oversee the entire commercial operation in his role as chief commercial officer.

Commenting on the restructure, Gordon said: “I am delighted to announce this new structure of our commercial division. This allows us in a post Covid-19 world to serve our customers in a far more simplified way ensuring that we can truly deliver dynamic, innovative solutions across the whole of our audio, outdoor and DAX portfolio.

“Both Katie and Ollie are natural leaders and along with the talented team at Global will give us a great opportunity to build on our commercial success.

“I’d like to thank Nigel for all he has done at Global in the last 12 months, both professionally and culturally. His expertise and knowledge of the outdoor industry are second to none and I am hugely grateful for the role he has played throughout this transitional period.”

The news follows the departure of Jonathan Lewis, executive director for Global’s outdoor operation and former CEO of Outdoor Plus, who left the business in February after less than a year.
