'Iconic' magazine Q closes following Bauer Media review

'Iconic' magazine Q closes following Bauer Media review

As part of Covid-19 recovery plans, Bauer Media has decided to cease publication of music magazine Q with immediate effect, bringing the title to an end after 34 years.

The issue on sale from July 28 will be the monthly magazine's last in both print and digital. In a tweet, editor Ted Kessler blamed the news on the pandemic, adding that "there was nothing more to it than that".

The closure comes as part of Bauer Media's now-concluded portfolio review, announced in May, which saw the publisher consider closing, merging or selling 10 of its "already challenged" UK titles as they were hit by the effects of coronavirus and a nationwide lockdown.

Automobile magazine Modern Classics is also to close after just five years, with the September issue on sale from July 29 to be its last.

Meanwhile, the magazines and digital properties for Sea Angler, Car Mechanics and Your Horse are to move into new ownership under Kelsey Media.

“We are pleased to have found such suitable new owners in Kelsey Media who can extend the life of these magazines and we wish the brands and teams every success for the future," said Chris Duncan, Bauer Media's CEO of UK Publishing.

"We have been unable to find equivalent new owners for Q and for Modern Classics and have decided to cease publication of these titles with immediate effect. We thank those teams for their work on these iconic titles.

"These tough decisions were made to help us recover and rebuild through the Covid-19 crisis. We will continue that process with our remaining portfolio of world class titles.”

Equestrian shopping event Your Horse Live does not form part of the sale and remains under Bauer Media’s ownership.
