UK ad industry urged to go ‘All In’ today by completing census

Today (10 March), UK advertising is invited to complete its first ever industry-wide census, kicking off a new campaign to “build back a better, inclusive industry for all”.

The ‘All In’ campaign is being run by The Inclusion Group, formed in April 2020 by the Advertising Association, ISBA and the IPA and chaired by Kathryn Jacob OBE, CEO of cinema advertising company, Pearl & Dean.

The fully confidential and aggregated industry census is available here.

It is being recorded and analysed by Kantar and will provide a record of the make-up of the UK advertising workforce – a “vital” benchmark for progress, according to the group.

Sharon Lloyd Barnes, commercial director, Advertising Association and member of the Inclusion Working Group, said: “The response to All In has been incredible since we launched the campaign at RESET 2021. It reflects the industry’s commitment to Inclusion and Diversity and an understanding that we need to work together to create the inclusive workplace we all want. We’re delighted that CEOs and MDs across our industry are personally committing to sharing the link with their staff today.”

The results of the census will be used to inform an action plan, to be launched at an industry summit this summer, addressing how greater inclusivity across all areas of the industry will be achieved.

Culture Minister Caroline Dinenage said: “The All In campaign will help ensure our advertising industry is built inclusively. I am grateful to the Advertising Association for its hard work in this area and look forward to seeing the outcome of the Census and the positive impact it has on diversity and inclusion in the sector.”

Bobi Carley, head of media and diversity and Inclusion lead, ISBA, concluded: “This is an opportunity for everyone in the industry to have their voice heard and for everybody to aid shift the pace of change. Your contribution will help us create a truly diverse and inclusive industry. Thank you for being All In.”
