Outdoor start-up Alight Media claims ultra-HD first

Alight Media, the outdoor media start-up, has launched the UK’s first digital six-sheet  roadside network that can broadcast ultra-HD (4K) content.

The company has added 170 D6 4K sites in the UK where screens of 70 inches or taller can play ultra high-definition content.

The business has also rolled out a digital 48-sheet network of 200 screens in 102 towns across the UK.

This takes Alight Media’s total portfolio to 1,500 OOH advertising sites since former Clear Channel boss Matthew Dearden founded it three years ago. In May the company acquired fellow outdoor start-up Foris Media.

It reports these figures make Alight Media a top-five OOH media owner and 97% of its sites were installed after January 2020.

Dearden said: “Since we launched, our goal has remained constant – to help advertisers reach people in underserved areas with the highest quality sites and screens. Reaching 200 D48 screens is a fantastic milestone, but this is just the beginning for the Alight team.”

The out-of-home sector suffered an 8% net fall in marketing budgets in the fourth quarter of 2021, today’s IPA Bellwether report revealed. This is despite a 6.1% increase in overall marketing budgets, the report found.
