‘Biggest ever’ female mentoring programme launches

WACL, the gender equality group for advertising and communications, has launched its biggest-ever round of its mentoring programme to support the next generation of female leaders.

The four-month mentorship programme, part of WACL’s Talent Sessions initiatives, will run between March and June and will be delivered by over 100 mentors.

Among the mentors are Disney’s Donna Birkett (vice-president of marketing media networks) and Marie Oldham chief strategy officer of VCCP Media.

The mentorship programme is designed to be an opportunity for women in the UK advertising, communications and media industries to inspire, support and discuss any barriers to success they may be facing.

Oldham, who has already taken part as a mentor, said: “It made me really think about my beliefs around issues such as maternity leave, motherhood and working; active networking to build your career; the crisis in confidence amongst brilliant, senior women; and the importance of personal development for all staff as they develop into leaders.

Clear Channel, Ocean Outdoor, Open Media and JCDecaux have donated £500,000 of outdoor space to advertise WACL’s mentoring scheme.  This goes live on 31 January across digital six-sheets and large-format screens in cities across the UK.  All social media and content planning has been developed by Stripe.
