Omnicom names Mike Cooper as media chief for EMEA and APAC

PHD's Mike Cooper has been appointed as Omnicom Media Group (OMG)'s CEO, EMEA and APAC, following the resignation of former EMEA chief executive Colin Gottlieb.

OMG - the media services division of Omnicom Group - announced that Gottlieb would be stepping down as CEO, EMEA and chairman of OMD Worldwide this week.

Gottlieb co-founded media agency Manning Gottlieb in 1990 and sold it to Omnicom seven years later, after which it rebranded to Manning Gottlieb OMD.

He will be leaving the group at the end of June and will remain an advisor until 2020.

Cooper, who was CEO of Omnicom's PHD Worldwide for 12 years, will lead the division across EMEA and APAC in the newly created position. He will be responsible for the services of OMG's agencies outside the Americas, including Hearts & Science, OMD and PHD.

“Mike’s proven talent for creating and expanding best practices across vastly different local markets has been critical to OMG’s global growth strategy,” said OMG chairman and CEO Daryl Simm.

“His record, and the respect he has earned from clients and agency teams at every level, speak to his energy, commitment and professionalism - qualities that he will bring to his new role, working with Hearts & Science, OMD and PHD leadership to assure the best outcomes for our clients across APAC and EMEA."

Cooper will be based in London and will report into Simm. His appointment is effective July 1; a new CEO for PHD Worldwide is to be announced in the coming days.

Commenting on his new role, Cooper added: “APAC and EMEA encompass an exciting mix of established and emerging markets where OMG enjoys significant market share through three strong media networks.

"Working with our extraordinary talent across these geographies, I will be focused on growing that share by delivering the technology, products and service that translate to business results for our clients.”
