Mediatel hires Steven Scaffardi to head up events business
As the company gears up for further growth, Mediatel has appointed Steven Scaffardi in the new role of Head of Events.
Scaffardi has over 15 years' experience across sales, strategy, management and marketing, working with both international and regional clients in the media and advertising sector. He joins from CloserStill Media, where he had served as events director for both the ad:tech London and Technology for Marketing conferences since April 2018.
Prior to this, Scaffardi was at Centaur Media - most recently as commercial director for the Festival of Marketing, Marketing Week Live, and The Insight Show. He also held a number of senior positions at C Squared Network's Festival of Media, including head of client partnerships and head of sponsorship & sales.
In his new role, commencing June 5, Scaffardi will report into Mediatel Events' founding partner Justin Lebbon and the incoming CEO of Mediatel, Greg Grimmer.
"I am delighted to be joining Mediatel at what is an incredibly exciting period for the company, especially the events side of the business which Derek [Jones, Mediatel's outgoing CEO] and Justin have done a fantastic job of building, developing and growing over the last few years," Scaffardi said.
"What appealed to me about the role most of all was the desire to not just improve the current offering, but the willingness to evolve, embrace new ideas and not stand still.
"I am also looking forward to getting back into conferences in an industry I love and have a real passion for."
Earlier this month, Mediatel announced that its long-standing CEO, Derek Jones, would be stepping down at the end of June - though he will remain with the business as executive chairman.
Commenting on Scaffardi's appointment, Jones said: "I'm thrilled to welcome Steve onto the Mediatel Events team. His extensive experience leading large-scale conferences and exhibitions globally across the media and advertising sector will be invaluable as we continue to expand.
"This has been the fastest growing area of our business over the last two years, as we expand our existing conferences and launch new events."
Following a 2016 merger with Hubble Media, Mediatel Events runs a large global events operation, with flagship conferences including the Future TV Advertising Forum in London, Toronto and Sydney, the Connected TV World Summit, and the Future of Brands conferences in London and Sydney.
