talkSPORT Gets A Result With Mercedez-Benz Deal

Wireless Group-owned sports radio station talkSPORT has secured Mercedez-Benz vans as the six figure sponsor of its weekend football results updates.

The deal, which will run during the 2002/2003 season, will see Mercedez sponsor the half-time and full-time results round-ups during Adrian Durham’s Football First programme on Saturday afternoons.

Adam Roland, sponsorship controller at talkSPORT’s sales house, Impact, negotiated the deal with Louise Reed, senior planner and buyer at BJK&E Media. Commenting on the sponsorship, Reed said: “Football First is a fast-moving show and great for Mercedes-Benz vans to be associated with. The half-time and full-time football results are an integral part of our target audience’s lives every Saturday and offer us the perfect targeting opportunity.”

Earlier this month, talkSPORT appointed former Kiss 100 local sales manager, Sarah Barnard, as head of direct sales for London (see talkSPORT Appoints New London Sales Head). Barnard will oversee the local sales operation for London and will report to Ashley MacKenzie, managing director of Impact.

According to RAJAR data for the second quarter of 2002, talkSPORT has seen its weekly reach increase by 8% year on year to 2,401,000, up from 2,224,000 in the same period the previous year.
