Emap Advertising Appoints New Head Of Magazine Sales

Emap Advertising has appointed Carrie Barker as its new magazine sales director with responsibility for leading a 150-strong team working across a portfolio of 30 consumer titles.

Barker, who takes up the position in early April, will over see the entire magazine sales division, which comprises the display, inserts, creative solutions and classified advertising teams.

She will report directly to Emap Advertising managing director, Dave King, who said: “I am sure that Carrie will tear up the magazine advertising market and bring many new ideas of how we change and shake up the way the medium is bought and sold.”

Barker added: “I am really looking forward to taking up my new role and making Emap Advertising’s magazine sales team the envy of the industry, through excellent servicing and an outstanding creative approach.”

Barker joins from Emap Communications where she has been managing director of Esprit since May 2000, with responsibility for titles including Yours, Mother & Baby and Slimming. She spent eight years at Elan, during which time she launched Pregnancy and Birth and acquired Top Sante magazine for the UK market.

Earlier this month Emap Advertising and Nissan teamed up in one of the biggest solus magazine deals. The six-figure campaign will promote the new Nissan 350z across a range of Emap’s men’s titles, including The Face and Arena (see Emap Advertising Secures Major Nissan Promotional Deal).
