Future Publishing Strengthens Internet Operations

Future Publishing is strengthening its internet operations with a raft of new appointments following a board level review designed to increase efficiency and boost the revenue generated by the company’s online projects.

The shake-up sees publishing director David Maher-Roberts take overall control of Future’s internet business with a remit to develop an online strategy. He will be responsible for integrating the web business with the magazine business using the publisher’s specialist interest content to help increase online revenues.

Future is splitting its internet business into operational and commercial teams to help it implement the new strategy. It has created two senior positions to reflect this – head of new media operations and head of new media sales.

Julie Stuckes, previously the head of multimedia, has been promoted to head of new media operations, with responsibility for delivering and maintaining Future’s online projects, both internal and for contract publishing clients. She will also build a new operational team to implement a brand new technology solution and partnering with external web services.

The restructure has also seen Lucy Allen appointed head of new media sales for the commercial team. She joins Future from Condé Nast and will be responsible for maximising the revenues and commercial opportunities that arise from the company’s expanding new media activities.

Commenting on the changes to Future’s internet operations, Maher-Roberts said: “Future has been tame in terms of our online business over the past three years but these changes will be able to maximise our assets and harness our expertise to ensure we can show our true ambitions as an online publisher.”

He added: “With separate commercial and operational teams I will be able to focus on the most important elements of our online business – the delivery and maintenance of the sites themselves and the revenue they generate.”

Last month Future Publishing announced a spate of celebratory promotions to mark the 100th issue of its leading creative magazine, Computer Arts. Among the promotions due to accompany the anniversary issue are four limited edition collector’s covers for the title, as well as the chance for to win computer software worth £1,000 (see Future Celebrates Computer Arts’ Centenary Edition).
