Good Housekeeping Adds To Staff In 80th Year

Natmags’ veteran women’s monthly title, Good Housekeeping, has announced three new appointments as it prepares to celebrate 80 years on the news stands in October.

Tony Long, advertisement manager at Cosmopolitan in the 80s and more recently head of media sales at Translucis, has been brought back to Natmags to become advertising director of the magazine.

Promotions consultant Sue Bird has been brought in to drive special promotions for the annivesary issue, having recently worked with Attic Futura on promotional and special project sales support across their portfolio of teen and TV titles.

Finally, maternity cover for Marion Lyons, commercial director of the Good Housekeeping Institute, will be provided by Sally James, who joins from News International’s Times Newspapers Ltd.

In the last set of ABC figures, Good Housekeeping saw a small year on year increase in circulation, where many in the sector saw falls (see NewsLine), and held onto its position as third in the women’s monthly market by circulation, despite the new challenge of Condé Nast’s Glamour.

The latest decade of the magazine’s 80 year reign saw a circulation high of almost 520,000 in 1994 and a low of 370,000 in 1999, but recent trends suggest a stablisation, which Good Housekeeping publishing director appears keen to capitalise on: “2002 is a crucial year for Good Housekeeping and its appropriate to drive the brand forward as vigorously as possible in its 80th year.” he said.
