Capital’s New Controller Makes Breakfast Appointment

Ric Blaxhill, the new programme controller at 95.8 Capital FM, has made his first key programming appointment since taking on the role last week.

Blaxhill has appointed Chris Brooks, formerly of Essex FM, as presenter for the new Weekend Breakfast Show, which will launch on 20 July. He takes over from Gary King, who is to remain at the station until the end of the year, when he leaves to pursue other projects.

Blaxhill commented: “[Chris] was due to sign to the GWR network only this week, but we are delighted that he’s decided to come to London’s number 1 hit music station instead.”

The station’s status at number 1 in the capital seems fairly assured at present, with reach registered in the Q1 2002 RAJAR report at 2.6 million, considerably ahead of near rivals such as Heart, Magic and Kiss (see graph). However, average weekly reach was nevertheless down period on period some 8.7%, while share of listening also slipped slightly in comparison with the last quarter of 2001 (see RAJAR Results Q1 2002- London Stations)
