Big Brother Website Proves More Popular Than Ever

Almost 1.5 million people visited the Big Brother website during June, an increase of 176,180 on the same period last year, according to the latest figures from NetValue.

The research shows that interest in the site has more than doubled since last year when just 600,000 unique users visited Channel 4’s Big Brother web pages during the first week of the programme. This year just over half of all visitors to the Big Brother website were women, 42% were aged between 15 and 24 and 31% were students.

According to Channel 4, in terms of TV viewing, this year’s Big Brother has been the most popular yet. After eight weeks the show has averaged an audience of 5.9 million viewers, representing a 34% increase on Big Brother 2 and a 37% increase on the first series of the reality TV show.

The Big Brother has also proved a success with digital viewers, with an average of 5.4 million tuning into this year’s show on E4, compared to 4.4 million last year and 4.1 million the year before.

The latest data from the Mobile Data Association shows that more than 11 million people used interactive TV or SMS text messages to cast their Big Brother 3 eviction votes during the first six weeks of the show, an increase of 52% on last year (see Big Brother 3 Boosts June’s Text Message Total).
